Summary

Rabbit Hill is a ski resort located along the bank of the North Saskatchewan River in southwest Edmonton, Alberta. Rabbit Hill was a previous client of Pixel Army, but they had started to outgrow their old website as they began adding summer activities to their resort. Their new website was to be more targeted towards families and would have many new features for guests, including current weather conditions, holiday hours, and a summer/winter toggle to assist in navigation depending on the season.

The Biggest Challenge

From a design point of view, the biggest challenge that came with designing this website was the separate summer and winter sides. Several factors came into play in deciding how to design this system, such as budget, time, SEO, and brand continuity. Rabbit Hill at the time had no branding materials targeted towards their summer activities, so any novel design I came up with needed to feel similar to their current branding while remaining family-oriented. For the final project, it was decided we do a different navigation for the summer side and winter side of the site. To accommodate this, I kept most aspects of the design, including shapes, decorations, and typefaces the same, only switching out the colors and a few smaller elements. Therefore when you switch, it still feels like the same website but tells you that you are looking at something different.

My Favourite Part

The subtle spinning snowflakes in the larger modules. For performance, these are disabled on mobile phones.
